Pathport Manager 5 start up shot

Pathport Manager 5 is a software program used to configure, troubleshoot and monitor Pathport® DMX-over-Ethernet nodes manufactured by Pathway Connectivity.  Pathport nodes are used primarily in entertainment and architectural lighting systems employing DMX512 as the control protocol.

Pathport Manager 5 will configure properties for all Pathport one-port, two-port and four-port nodes using a firmware version of 3.0.2.x or higher.  Pathport Manager 5 will retrieve and set channel patches for all one-port, two-port and four-port nodes using firmware of 3.0.4.x or higher.  Firmware upgrade support is provided for all nodes upgrading from a firmware version of 3.0.4.x.  Earlier firmware versions require Pathport Manager 3.

Pathport Manager 5 is a Java application and requires Java 6 or greater.  See below for known issues regarding Java 6 and other known problems.

Features:

  • network interface reporting with enable/disable support

  • monitor mode (read only) and password-protected administrator mode

  • save/load showfiles of one, some or all nodes

  • firmware upgrade

  • custom universe patches saved separate from nodes or shows

  • CSV export and import of universe patches

  • universe patching on a port view basis, rather than node-based

  • universe editing by command line or cell-by-cell

  • priority levels directly editable

  • multiple node/port selection for easy global editing of properties or assignment of patches

  • user-definable perspective views of all tables

  • any number of perspectives may be saved and retrieved easy

  • A-Z / Z-A sorting of columns

  • filter-searching of all table cells

Known issues:

1.  Showfiles saved in the RC1 version of Pathport Manager 5 are not compatible with the RC2 release.  Sorry.

2.  Java Bug:  Version 6 updates 14, 15 and 16 of the Java Virtual Machine engine appear to incorrectly perform an reverse DNS look-up when employing a static IP scheme.  This problem causes PM5 to appear to freeze for up to 15 seconds when started on the Vista operating system.  The delay is only one or two seconds on an XP machine.  Sun Microsystems has not acknowledged this as a bug.  However, our testing shows it is not PM5.  Once the program finally starts, there is no effect on performance.  We are examining various workarounds.

3.   On large Pathport systems (more than 400 ports total), PM5 RC2 will fail to repaint the screen properly and will lock up.  Contact This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it for the workaround fix.  On systems over 250 ports, a large number of false negatives may be reported: i.e. the node will update properly, but PM5 RC 2 will report that it hasn't.  Using "Get Config" or "Get Patches" will show correctly whether the nodes have updated or not.  We are working on a fix.

4.  Java 6 is not available for certain Apple products, including the PowerPC line.  Sorry.

Added Sept 09:  Java SE 6 will only run on Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard) and higher, and only on machines using an Intel 64-bit chip.  As Java SE 6 is not included in the Leopard distribution disks, you will need to download an update, either through Software Update (which may also require an OS update first - all 800 MB) or by pasting this link into your browser:

http://.support.apple.com/downloads/Java_for_Mac_OS_X_10_5_Update_4

Once you have applied this update, you need to change your Java Preferences so that Java SE 6 is the default JVM for Java applications.

5.  Pathport Manager 5 RC2 must be run with a screen resolution higher than 1024 x 768 or the Save Showfiles button will not be visible to the user.
