Pathport VIA Gigabit Network Switch

At last - a network switch that understands lighting - designed by a leader in lighting network technology.

The VIA10 is a 10 port + 1  gigabit network switch with a host of industry specific features. The front panel LCD and encoder knob  - a feature not found even on enterprise switches - provide easy configuration and status review, without need of a computer link or a web browser.

Fiber SFP Connectors

The Pathport VIA ships with a base configuration known to work with the vast majority of lighting systems.  In the event of a management processor failure, the VIA will still function as an unmanaged switch.

A front panel LCD and encoder knob - something not found on most enterprise switches - allow the user to quickly review status information and to set configuration.  IP addresses are  quickly set without need of a serial connection or web browser, removing a common stumbling  block when setting up a network.  A rear-mounted SFP port acts as a 1GB fiber port (requires user-provided mini-GBIC connector).

A simple VLAN interface allows user with limited networking knowledge access to powerful routing tools.  Link mode allows a user to force a slower connection speed - a useful workaround for poor wiring.  With 60W of on-board PoE (power-over-Ethernet), up to 10 Class 1 PoE devices may be powered.  PoE loading can be adjusted or limited port-by-port.

All connected Pathport devices can be reviewed from the LCD, including the device name, IP settings, MAC address and serial number, and operating firmware version.  Switch configuration and logging can be saved to external media via integrated SD and USB ports.

The VIA fills a long-standing need in the industry and, for the first time, allows the sourcing of a complete Ethernet-based lighting data distribution system from a single supplier.

Firmware 3.8.0 release notes:

- This release aligns the VIA10 feature set with the VIA12 models, and is strongly recommended.

Important:  Due to changes in the VLAN tables, VIA10 switches may remain offline after the upgrade is completed and require a factory default to be performed from the front panel to restore connectivity.

 - EAPS Ring Protection (ports 9, 10, 11)
-  Per-VLAN  IP configuration, including DHCP support, IGMP querying and snooping.
-  Per-port features added include: bandwidth monitor, active multicast groups, LLDP (link layer detection protocol) support
 - Art-Net trap-and convert to sACN (per-port):  Broadcast Art-Net packets are detected as they enter the switch port.  The packets are converted to sACN packets using the same universe.  Multicast filtering may be applied to these packets to reduce bandwidth usage and improve routing efficiency.
- Alternate Art-Net Mapping: Enabled by default, routes Art-Net Universe 0-0 as sACN Universe 1.  When disabled, Art-Net Universe 0-0 is ignored and the packets are dropped.
- DHCP server and client on a per-VLAN basis.
- Link local auto-IP support (used when dynamic IP is chosen in the absence of a DHCP server)
- PoE Enable/Disable on a per-port basis.  PoE is enabled by default. When disabled, the port will not provide PoE to a connected device, regardless of the PoE allocation settings.
- QoS (Quality of Service) user-settable on a switch-wide basis.  May be set as Off; Standard; or Dante™-compliant.
- Active multicast groups are shown (switch-wide); multicast subscriptions shown per-port.

Firmware version 3.7.1 release notes:

- Bandwidth meter added, per port.

- IGMP snooping added.  Do not run snooping on more than four VLANS at the same time.

- IGMP querier added.  At least one, preferably two, queriers must be running in tandem with IGMP snooping, or multi-cast will fail.

- Per VLAN network settings added.

  • Front panel LCD and encoder knob allow easy status review and configuration

  • IP settings configurable from front panel

  • Link speed, duplex, PoE status including power draw and more are reported

  • Force link mode allows user to determine communication speed

  • Display all connected Pathport devices, including each device's name, IP settings, MAC address, and firmware version

  • VLAN configuation and review from the front panel
  • AVB (Audio-Visual Bridge) hardware support (software support not yet released)
  • Free Java-based configuration tool (Pathport Manager)

Please note that VIA10s currently running firmware or earlier must first be upgraded to before a newer version may be successfully applied.  Upgrading to the current firmware is strongly recommended.
